Success Stories

There have been many success’s of varying degree at Elk Island Youth Ranch. To explore some of the “outcomes” of clients, and keeping with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, clients with be referred to as Client A, Client B, etc.

Client A was a client with Elk Island Youth Ranch for 5 years. Client A transitioned from our Treatment program, to our SIL facility. Diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder, Client A was expected to have difficulty in a work environment. Given the opportunity while in the SIL program Client A began to work for Mark Lacoursiere’s business, Pillar Ltd. Under Mark Lacoursiere’s tutelage Client A went to NAIT and obtained his Journeyman Painting certificate. Client A has remained with Pillar Ltd as an employee.

Client B was at Elk Island Youth Ranch for 5 years. Client B entered the SIL program, and also obtained training with Pillar Ltd. Courses obtained include safety training in flagman duties, WHMIS, CSTS. Client B obtained his drivers license and currently works for Pillar a Bucket Truck Operator. Client B has far exceeded expectations of many people and shows his appreciation to opportunities he was given at Elk Island Youth Ranch.

Client C was at Elk Island Youth Ranch for 4 years, and had gone on to our SIL program. After obtaining support from staff, Client C has successfully entered into Concordia University and will continue his education.

Client D, Client E, and Client F are currently at Elk Island Youth Ranch and have successfully graduated High School, and are currently beingĀ  supported by staff to obtain training that will help them be successful in the work force. Client D was able to control his schizophrenia to graduate. Client E was able to overcome FASD symptoms to graduate and obtain employment. Client F was able to graduate when he had anger issues, impulse control issues, as well as being able to overcome depression issues.

The ability for clients to succeed starts with consistency, and having clients become part of the Elk Island Youth Ranch Family. The range of programs offered, including individual programs, will allow most individuals to succeed here. Breakdowns in programming does occur, however if the safety of staff and clients are not breached, the drive to success and overcoming obstacles does not stop.
